Inotify tools is linux utility program to run scripts based on inode events. Inode events such as “file created”, “file closed”, “file modified”, can be captured. We are FTP’ing files into a directory and we would like to run a PHP based on the file name when the FTP operation is completed. *** DONT EVEN RESPOND IF YOU HAVENT OPENED THE ATTACHMENT When the script starts, it will run the process function to see if there are any files that need to be processed. When it is done processing files in the directory THEN IT WILL MONITOR FOR NEW FILES. When the script detects a new file, then it will run the process function to process the new file.

Greetings! My name is Sergey Murzin, I'm from Kyiv, Ukraine. I have 25 years experience in programming. Any code I provide is well structured and commented, client gets whole access and rights for the code I made. Warranty covers any bugs detected later. Lets please doublecheck if I understood the task in a right way: 1) you want some additional script to check if installed / install inotify tools. However, the problem is that different linux distributions use different packages for that... However, at least check/wanring one can except for any distribution... However, the script have possibiliries to perform described functionality even without inotify tools installed. 2) You need main script to: - keep some list of already performed files to be able to detect new ones... You will delete old files time to time? I mean that list of performed files will always frow, so one will need to clean the list upon files are deleted form the folder - after start to check if some new files present, if so then perform them - performance: I did not get properly the rule to apply to file names when choosing the php script to run... Are you sure this rule will cover any file names will be faced? - obligatory or as an option the script will become a daemon Looking forward for further clarifications of the details.
