School Knowledge Management System

Over the past several years, a knowledge management solution has been developed that provides a range of web-based services to students, staff and family of secondary schools (i.e. students age’s range from 13 to 18) in Queensland, Australia. This project concerns the further development of this software into a standalone appliance (i.e. similar to the Google search appliance). The final system should provide all the functionality of the current one (links to current system given below), as well as several new features to be negotiated with the successful bidder. It should be noted that the successful bidder could be asked to do further work in the future. This project is of a reasonable scale and has appropriate funding available. Bidders should have experience with both the technologies listed below as well as experience in developing software for medium/large scale applications. The duration of the project is to be a few months. While there are more services that are only accessible internally, this should suffice for an example of the end product. The key technology that is currently used in this project is: o Microsoft IIS (VB-Script/J-Script) ASP Pages o Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 o Microsoft Windows 2000 Server o XML / XSL Additionally, a range of supporting tools have been constructed that use: o Microsoft Access o Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 o Paradox ## Deliverables It should be noted that the deliverables to this project are based on an already deployed system. Therefore, what will be provided to the coder will be the complete source code to date for all tools. This source code is of a reasonable size and it will be expected that the coder will take some time to become familiar with it. The ultimate deliverables to this project are: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased. ----------------------------------------------------- Information added 10 June 2003: --------- A .ZIP file has been attached to the project with more information. The contents of this file is the same as what was messaged to all bidders. ## Platform As this software package is to run on a dedicated platform, the choice of platform is able to be negotiated. While the curernt platform is clearly based on Microsoft technologies, alternate options such as Linux/MySQL based solutions will be considered provided justification is given (NOTE: A solution proposing the use of an alternate system will obviously require re-engineering existing software). With regard to the installation package specified above, the ideal solution would be a image of a complete system (i.e. with Windows or Linux) that can be placed on a blank PC.
