== Publisher to HTML conversion ==

This project involves getting some data out of some old MS Publisher files and converting them into a format that usable for my project (html or text, as described below). **Please read this description very carefully. ** I posted a similar project last time and got a lot of responses from people who did not read the description carefully. Attached to this bid reuest is a .zip file with a single OLD .pub file in it. By "old" I mean I think it was created for Win3.1 or Win95 or something like that. Please look at this and see if you can open it - it will NOT open in Publisher2003, as far as I can tell, but it WILL open with some other publisher conversion tools and/or older versions of publisher. If you can't open the file, there's no point in you bidding. However, since relatively few people will be able to open it, if you do open it I suspect your chances of being chosen are good. This pub file contains "flashcards" about an aircraft. By "flashcards" I mean that a question is on the front and the answer is on the back. Some flashcards have more than one q/a on them. Each of the flashcards deals with airplanes. There are approximately 80-120 flashcards per airplane and so far there are 5 airplanes. So estimate around 500 flashcards like the one attached here. (continued below) ## Deliverables This project has three parts: let's call them A, B, and C. In your bid, please specify which parts (A, AB, or ABC) you are including in your bid. The END goal of this project is to get the flashcards into a form that can be used by our AirCards program: see - [[login to view URL]][1]for AirCards. **It is very helpful if you download and install a version of aircards** before making your bid. Please mention this in your bid request. An understanding of the goal of the project will make your bid more appealing. **Part A: ** Extract ALL the text from the flashcards preserving ALL of the information on them in some form to be manipulated. For example, you can convert them to text files or stick the data into access databases. Basically, what I need from you is the flashcards data in some standard format, for each question and answer I'd need: - the question text - the answer text - the name of the section / chapter it is in - the name of the card it was on (for example: "B747-200 Card 12") **Part B: ** Convert the question text and answer text to HTML. For most questions, probably little conversion is necessary. Note that Part B can done "at the same time" as Part A, more or less. What do I mean by HTML? Not a document for each. Rather, in AirCards, the questions are displayed in HTML format (again, download and see the AirCards prgogram - you can download any aircraft - Lear 35 is probably a good one to see what I am talking about). The question / answer html is a little HTML snippet. Typically, you will be placing things into (OL, UL) lists and/or making simple tables where necessary. Also, you will be adding SUBscript / SUPerscipt tags and other formatting tags where necessary. Again, the idea is to make this ready for AirCards. **Part C: ** If you've done A and B well, Part C is relatively easy. If you decide to do part C, I will give you access to our online content editing system. It is here that you will upload the questions and work to make sure they are properly characterized. This will involve putting the data in a simple proprietary text format. Again, not too tough if A and B are done well. **Important: the data you are working on is confidential. You must keep it that way. ** **Your bid should include evidence of and answers to all of the following: ** 1. You have downloaded the sample .pub file (in .zip) and have successfully opened it (let me know how you did it.). In your bid, please show evidence that you opened this file. 2. have looked at the AirCards ([[login to view URL]][2] -download the Lear 35 version of AirCards) and got a sense of what the program is about, and can see how the data from the .pub file fits. 3. I understand that this bid is for the following aircraft: - Boeing 747 200 - Boeing 737 200/400 - MD DC-10 - Learjet 20 - Saab 340 Are you willing to work on additional aircraft in the NEAR future? I expect that I will have about 10 more aircraft not too long. Your fee for each additional aircraft will be 1/5th of your bid fee for this project, prorated as necessary for more or less flashcards in each (I dont yet know how many aircraft each will contain). 4. I am willing to do parts A/AB/ABC **Final Notes:** The files are currently in a GMAIL account. I suspect that the easiest way for you to get the files is that I will just give you the un/pw for that GMAIL account The bid price is a maximum. Lower bids are very welcome and will be more competitive! However, ultimately I will choose the person who convinces me that they will do a good job on time and really understands the project.
