The table 'users' has their details including their user_id and city_id referring to their area. Each user can create a social to be held in their area and this is saved in a table called 'events', . But this table does not store the city_id of where the event takes place, it does record their user id. We need to be able to know how many socials are taking place in an area. So the code has to match the user_id in 'events' to the 'users' table and get the city_id. Then count how many users in events have the same city_id. The page where these statistics are seen will show all 300 areas and their number of events. So we would copy and replace the function 300 times changing the city_id !
