Edit a wordpress theme's responsive behavior

The theme we are using for a new site we are building is giving us almost everything we need. There is one behavior that is lacking. We communicated with the theme developer to ask for their help. We are including the conversation here: Our question: ----- Is there some CSS magic you could suggest that would instruct a contained column of a grid row to stop stretching past a certain width to behave like a simple column element (with respect to the max width set in general layout? I love how the grid row allows to have text and image side by side in wide media widths but then above each other in small media widths but when the media is really wide I would like the text to stop stretching past the max-width set in general layout > dimensions as seen when using simple column elements. As the text box fills all the available 1/2 width it looks silly on wide screens. I tried different combinations using simple column elements and color sections, but I still can’t get everything I want. With simple column elements, the text stops stretching past the max-width, but I cannot get the image to stretch to fit the height of the neighboring text and the width of the available viewport. With color sections, I can get my text to stop stretching past the general layout max width if I place the simple column element inside a color section and format the background image to stretch from the side. This workaround works well until I get to small media widths, at which point the text and the background overlap and this is not acceptable for what I am doing. Developer's response: ----- Hey! This is something which is unfortunately not easily done and will require a rather complex modification. I am thinking about adding this myself in one of the next updates, but it will take me some time to implement and test. There is unfortunately nothing I can do right now to fix the issue easily since it will probably require some Javascript calculations. We also find ourselves using a lot of plugins for our site and are concerned about their impact on the site's load time. For this project, we would like to select a developer who not only can help us update the code on the theme but also a developer with whom we may be able to work on optimizing the wordpress site for speed. You will be working with two people on our team, a graphic designer and an experienced .NET developer and software architect.
