Moisture Coms Manager (MCM) The Coms manager function is to poll ground moisture sensor nodes in the field every hour and upload the information to a website via a modem. The sensor nodes are based on the synapse mesh radio and the MCM has a synapse radio sitting on one of the coldfire serial ports. The other serial port is a RS232 port for connection to the modem. The MCM hardware is based on the Freescale coldfire processor and utilises the same LCD, RTC and keyboard interface as the DI (direct injection controller) for which source code is available for cut and paste. The existing source also contains a bootloader for the coldfire enabling its USB port to be used to reload new firmware on it in the field. In addition the USB port can be used to log data and upload config. Existing code is written using code warrior. Unit settings need to be able to be programmed into the MCM via an upload from USB stick (a config file of sorts) containing details of sensor node addresses (6 digit hex) field ID, farm ID and URL address for data upload. A PC editor to enable the data to be entered into a form and saved to USB need to be generated.
