Elastic Search or Solr Setup for weighted search results of movies

We're a startup, working on a database application for the Motion picture Industry. Our product is developed in Ruby on Rails, Angular, PostgreSQL. Our database includes movies and related meta data (actors, genre, keywords, revenue, production budget, language etc.) ---- At the moment we allow our user to find movies based on these characteristic using a filter based UI. We use active record + PostgreSQL to find movies which are "Drama AND Comedy and $90M+ Budget produced after 2010" This actually works already great.. you can view a visual example here: [login to view URL] Still search results are small and it would be better to say "Drama OR Comedy OR $90M+ Budget OR year 2010+" and give the user a search result which offers the most matching movies at the top, and the least matching at the bottom. --- What we're looking for is a Elastic Search or SOLR implementation that allows us to have these requirements: 1) Rank movies with top matches at the top 2) Add weights for the dimension (e.g. 40% genre, 10% keywords, 20% budget etc) 3) Have a indicator (0-100 or 0-10) that indicates the similarity of input and the movie 4) A JSON/REST interface [login to view URL] that can respond to URLs like: /api/movies?animation=true&country_ids=231&currencies=true&genre_ids=35&page=1&sort=true&threed=false Find attached a document with some thoughts on input factors, relevance and segments. --- Optional / Project Phase 2: 1) Configuration of segments that allows to have different weights for certain type of inputs (small budget, big budget, US production, India production etc.) 2) Use Solr to allow users to sort their results not only by relevance, also e.g. release date, budget or other criteria 3) Integrate the search index also for other parts of the app. At the moment we allow the user to search for Talents, movies, keywords across the app. Right now we're using SolR already to search talents and movies within the application. --- We originally were looking into item-based recommender system but for strategic and financial reasons we're now looking as first step a search index based implementation. We also believe that we need a advanced Solr/Elastic Search implementation to make searching in our SaaS effectively. Budget and time are limited but we're always looking for a longterm honest collaboration. PLEASE NOTE: - We already have a SOLR setup running and in production on a Linode VPS - Feel free to suggest other hosting cloud based options - The expected time of delivery is maximum 2 weeks - Attached are more detailed description including a DB Access with limited data and a structure you can look at.
