Amazon SQS Daemon

I need a multithreaded daemon (C or Java) to process Amazon SQS notifications, thousands per hour. The notifications are MWS Subscription notifications, product offer changes. I need the daemon to process all notifications, and save only the most current pricing information to MySQL. There may be many notifications for the same item (ASIN), so it's important to save only the most current per item. The daemon needs to run 24/7 and process the notifications. It must be able to process 25,000+ per hour. I will provide an AWS API key for development/testing. The test account receives 3000 to 5000 notifications per hour. All the documentation about AWS, SQS, and MWS Subscriptions are available form Amazon. This is a simple project using the AWS SDK. I've already written a single thread version in PHP, it's just not fast enough. I need faster, a Java OR C version can utilize multithreading and that appears to be the solution I need.
