Research Assistant (Experiment Scripting and Analysis)

I am looking for someone to help me automate and run experiments and prepare the data for research papers on Algorithms for Bioinformatics. You will be provided with: - Already written software and a server to run the experiments on. - I will define and discuss with you the variables to be tested, including the data sets. I will ask you to: - Write scripts to run experiments with the above parameters, and to capture the data that is output (timings, memory usage, etc)... - Overlook the experiments and try to make sure they go smoothly, ensuring good statistical methodology is used - Work with me to find the interesting results, and plot those for publication. - Sometimes you may be requested to learn a piece of software autonomously, such as a tool that I need as part of my pipeline. Required skills: - Shell Scripting (Grep, Awk, Sed), Python, R, Mathematica, or whatever tools you prefer to use while running the experiments! if you prefer Ruby or Perl you can use them by all means... - Basic statistical method (e.g. don't just run the experiment once!) - Good communication (if things go wrong and results will be late, please let me know! But English doesn't need to be your first language). Skills that are not essential but definitely a bonus: - C/C++ (my code will be written in this, so it may help you to be able to read it or modify the output format) - LaTeX (for formatting tables and editing my paper) - Academic Writing (I can do this part, but occasionally it'd be really helpful if you can write some draft sections with me) - Bioinformatics knowledge may be useful.
