I would build MS Access database updated and will linked to the Xero accounting system API with fom the currently Access 2010. It will be fulfilled as the API link is a requirement of HMRC. The database is very basic and It would fulfill all your automation of business rules [ Day to days work ] and accounting possibilities and you will be delighted to know that it could potentially do for you. It will automate the much process of entering the 150-200 jobs each week, customer details and job history are displayed along with sales. Yes, It is important and will be able to quickly enter jobs as you own and manage the shop and the one phone line can get very busy. Nothing too elaborate is necessary as you want. You hired a company a few years ago and it was taking up to five minutes to book a call/sale which is quite a lot of time. Presently if the customer gives their address I can book in a minute as I have all the information recalled immediately and same way it will do job at once with minimum manual intervention of yours. The whole look of the database is very dated and you would like something more user friendly as you find it difficult to show newcomers all its quirks. It will be taken care of.
