Approach:
Before going into details of approach, I would like you to look at this project, where I am developing costing software for Pest Control company.

This software has 2 module: Costing module, Material flow (inventory module) with CRUD facilities.
1) User interface:
User-forms or drop-down lists for getting various inputs from accountant/user.
2) Database:
This contains various input tables like raw material prices, sales agent information etc. We also save generated quotes here for future analysis on profitability etc.
We can use MS Access or Excel for database.
3) Calculation logic:
This is where all the processing of information is done.
4) Generating quotes in MS Word:
Finally we can link costing tool to MS word and automate quote generation process. This saves time and reduces human error.
5) Email integration:
Sending mails/alerts based on condition.
Tool language:It is based on Microsoft excel and uses VBA code for operation. MS access is used as database.
