The webservice includes about 20 different commands, and about 25 different MySql queries. You will get access to our repository, and will have to install a local environment of Perl, MySql on Ubuntu, and go through each command and query in the service to optimize and speed them up. Your bid price for the project must include the following: * Programming methodology for maximum Security and Performance of the code * Easily understandable and readable code, logically structured and built for future modification and enhancement * Programming philosophy of "when something needs to be changed - change it just in one place" * Structured functions - no spaghetti code or copy paste mess * Full documentation and easy to understand comments within the code * Time for support and installation instructions of the source code on our developers computers * Providing the full source code * Please allow within your price 20-30% extra work hours for features that were not included in the original requirements document * Payment will be divided per milestones * The last milestone will be paid after complete fixing of all bugs and confirmation of product delivery * We will need an invoice upon payment We are looking for someone with good social and language skills, easy to work with, with an ocd for the little details, responsible and serious. As this is only the first step of a bigger product, we prefer hiring for the long term, and ideally have the chosen person take ownership of the entire project. Hello! After carefully reading and understanding your requirements, or at least what's been told so far (as you didn't actually provide too many details about the work itself), I'd like say a couple of things: - since I'm no Perl developer, if this is not a must using Perl, I would like to convert all of the code into PHP; this is already included in my bid, there's no extra cost for it; I'll be using Zend Framework, which I've used for several years and developped + deployed successfully a lot of apps, most of them intranet large web based apps, I can show demos if need be (although most of them are RO language based) - provided you'd accept my offer to do the code change from Perl to PHP, I would like to find out more about what the existing web service stands for, what's the purpose, who are the customers and what are their needs in respect to using this webservice - I will give, by contract means if you want so, a 6-12 month of guarantee to my work, free bug fixes included, of course. - I can provide full support on a long term, I'm not hunting one time or short term projects; I work on a daytime schedule most of the time, available over skype or phone, and available for emergencies during evening or night time if need be (it happens sometimes, I know this) - I'm legally registered here, so you'll get an invoice, but I'm not collecting nor paying VAT, we are allowed to do this for individuals/freelancers and small companies in my country ran out of text :( Dragos

Looks like an interesting project, so I'd be glad to step in. Since I assume the code is working, it would be great to get some 'target numbers' - optimization is a beast with many heads and faces, and it's not at all sure from the very beginning that the wanted performance is achievable by the means initially envisioned. Nevertheless, I'd really enjoy to enter the fight. (Dass ich auch Deutsch spreche ist höchstwahrscheinlich eher uninteressant im gegebenen Kontext). As for Perl: I'm a Perl programmer for more than 10 years now, obviously aware of Perl's 'Knigge': Daman Conway's 'Perl Best Practices'. If that would make a difference. And to programming style: I [still] consider that a well commented program that [still] has [minor] glitches is worth more than a program that [just] works. Thank you, vielen Dank.

Hi, before I try to sway you with proven record of experience and what not, could you answer a few questions? Firstly could you provide the code and DB structure prior to the project (signing NDA won't be a problem), because it's extremely hard to say how long will the optimization take, if you don't know what you are optimizing... Secondly, would the optimization be related to: Perl code only, Perl code and Database, or perhaps even your servers, network architecture? Thirdly, do you have any restrictions on the code (style, usage of particular modules, forced structures for certain tasks...)? Last 7 years I work remotely on full time basis on big data gathering/processing projects. Over that time I did many optimizations as Perl scripts/modules as MySQL queries for speeding up programs/services and memory usage control as well as appropriate logging/notifications systems development. I keep my code well structured and commented, clean for understanding and farther support. I have not been using freelance service for almost 7 years (that's why you will not see here details about my previous projects or reviews). That is just because I found here the client for which I fulfilled successfully couple of tasks and then started to work on very long full time basis. I expect to find here again the long term cooperation ability for providing strong development services with good quality. At least I always to my best for it.
